#BeTheChange and shape your future. As a REN, perseverance and sheer determination goes a long way. Pushing through the world of real estate takes hard work.
These values are what encompasses a REN, and is shown more clearly than ever in the branch leader of IQI Elite Penang, Beth Lim.
Beth was initially an accountant of nearly 7 years, but made the decision to switch directions when she realised that she needed a change.
Although the switch was paved with challenges, Beth worked hard to get where she is today. This is her story.
Taking the First Step into Real Estate
Beth recalled the time she was working in the accounting industry. “The hours were long. And I usually had to work until late at night”. She says. According to Beth, working on weekends had become second nature by that point.
At this point, she started to feel lost and exhausted. As she was surveying for new homes to buy. She realised that she didn’t make enough to own a house, which made her spiral into an even deeper sense of exhaustion.
Soon after, she met her friend who was a property agent. She was offered a part-time position and accepted. This was her she got her foothold into the real estate industry and her first step into #BeTheChange.
Challenges and Difficulties Faced
When Beth first joined the real estate industry, she was only a part-timer. This means that she had to focus on both her full time and part time job. “It was very hard in the beginning, I had to work late nights and on weekends”.
Beth also made other sacrifices like putting off lunch to utilise the free time for callings. Luckily, all her hard work and patience bore fruit as she managed to close her first sale only on her second week.
As she recalls the start of her real estate career, Beth realised that when she closed her sales on weekends, the money she received is equivalent to that of a few months salary in her accounting firm.
That was when she decided to put her foot down and switch to full-time, two to three months after working as a part timer.
WHY IQI?
Beth joined IQI in 2018, where before she was working at a different agency. Beth clarified that at first, she felt overwhelmed by the change because she transitioned from a small agency. However, through the continued support of her team members, she adjusted nicely.
At IQI, she was able to leverage on the convenience of technology and having a bigger team to help her with her job.
The training, resources and team members were vital assets in ensuring her continued success. The systems that were in place helped even new-joiners learn faster and more efficiently.
“I appreciate all the support I received from my team leader, Adrian for training me on the Marketing aspects of the business, but also my HOD Tuck Wai for expanding my mindset. The culture at IQI is one that emphasizes collaboration, a culture I truly appreciate”.
Perseverance and Determination as a Gateway to Success
At this point, it is clear that Beth went through various hardships to get to where she is today. of course, certain failures are inevitable. But hard work is often paid off.
From working on an accounting desk job for nearly seven years, to part-timing and growing on her own as a real estate agent; she was faced with every manner of challenge, but not once did she give up.
Instead, she persevered, and her efforts were rewarded.
“Success is not immediate, when you work to achieve something, you have to trust the process. And the process is more important than the result.”
It’s essential that RENs solidify their mindset and have a strong desire to succeed. As Beth Lim puts it; find out what you want, keep thinking about it, visualise it and #BeTheChange
