Have you heard? The official voting date for the 15th General Election (GE15) is on November 19 2022!
After the presentation of the 2023 Budget on Oct 7, the Prime Minister of Malaysia recently announced the dissolution of the Parliament on Oct 10. Following that, the 15th general election is to be held on November 19, with Nomination Day for the candidates on November 5 and early voting on November 15.
Are you aware of how to vote? Now that the government has lowered the voting age to 18 last year and implemented automatic registration, it’s more important than ever that you know how to check your voter information.
Find out your voting status through the steps below!
Step 1: Log on to the Election Commission website
To check your voter details, simply log on to the Election Commission website and click on “Semakan Daftar Pemilih” (Check Voter Details).
Step 2: Enter your IC number and verification code
After clicking “Search Voter Information” on the homepage, a page to enter your information will appear. After you enter your IC number and verification code, click “Semak” (check).
Step 3: Obtain Voter Information
After clicking the “Check” button on the previous page, if you are an eligible voter, this page will display your profile, including your full name, IC number, date of birth and gender.
The following section is your voter information, including your polling center (Pusat Mengundi), polling channel (Saluran), polling number (Bilangan), polling time, suggested time to vote and polling date.
The third part is your polling place (Lokaliti), voting district (Daerah Mengundi), state constituency (DUN), parliamentary constituency (Parliment) and your state.

Of course, in addition to checking through the official website of the Election Commission, you can also check your voter information through other methods:
- Download the app MySPR Semak ( Apple App Store / Google Play Store )
- Visit the State Elections Office website
- Call the election committee hotline 03-88927018 for direct inquiries
How To Vote If You Are Overseas
You are eligible to vote by post if you are a:
- Malaysian citizen abroad
- Student or spouse abroad
- Civil servant and spouse abroad
Students, spouses and civil servants living abroad are automatically registered as postal voters and will not need to apply to vote by post through the website.
Malaysian citizens living abroad can apply to vote by post by creating an account on the SPR website and applying for the Postal Vote Online Application for Category 1B.
How to register for UndiPos:
1. Create an account on the SPR website and fill in the following details:
- Full name and address based on MyKad
- Valid mobile phone number
- Valid email address
- A front image of your MyKad
- A selfie with your MyKad
Your account will take 1-2 days to be approved.
2. Apply as an overseas voter
Once your account is approved, log in to your MySPR account and click ‘Permohonan’ under the UndiPos sidemenu. Then, select ‘Pengundi Luar Negara’ as your category.
3. Fill in your details
Enter the required details and the mailing address where you want your ballot to be sent. You will then receive a notification and a confirmation email stating that your application is in progress. The Election Commission (SPR) will send you another email once your application is successful.
4. Receive and fill in your ballot
The ballot paper will be posted to your mailing address when the general elections are called. Once you receive your ballot kit, you will have to mark the ballot, fill in the attached form and insert them into an envelope.
5. Mail the ballot
You may mail the ballot at your own cost or drop it off at the Malaysian embassy or consulate office in your respective country.
