The world celebrated International Women’s Day on March 8 – a day to celebrate women’s achievement, raise awareness against bias and take action for equality, from the world of medicine to property.
In conjunction with this celebration, The Sun had chats with inspiring women in telling the audience how they #ChooseToChallenge themselves in the property industry, and our very own Sheila Tan, Juwai IQI Group Executive Director, was one of those women.

What are the challenges for women/you in the property industry?
For me, the biggest challenge has been learning to handle the increasing levels of productivity and responsibility as I progress in my career without becoming overwhelmed. I have found that each success makes you better and stronger.
That enables you to tackle bigger challenges in the future.
Despite the challenges, there are advantages for women in the industry, especially given that more females are making most of the home buying/renting decisions.
Your advice to women who want to advance in the property industry?
Anyone can excel in the property industry because it rewards individuals who are proactive and entrepreneurial, regardless of their gender. Anyone who seeks to continually improve their skills and results can succeed in property. Working in real estate actually teaches you to be a better person, a stronger and happier person.
I advise a woman who is just starting out in real estate to be alert to opportunities and go after them when they do arise. Also, be sure to join a successful, fast-growing team. An excellent agent who works in a team that does not generate many opportunities will have a harder time succeeding than even a mediocre agent who works in a high-performing organisation that creates lots of opportunities.
