Ahh yes, Petaling Jaya – the affluent area in Selangor we all know and love.
Home to myriad cafes and many interesting activities, I’d personally drive 20km+ to Petaling Jaya just to check out what’s in store.
Maybe don’t waste petrol like that… Invest in a house in Petaling Jaya instead!
As a person who frequents PJ very often (and I mean, very often), you’ll know exactly why staying in Petaling Jaya is the way to go.
Here are some attractive activities in PJ that will make you want to go, “I want to live here!”
Why Invest in Petaling Jaya? |
Petaling Jaya Is For The Shopaholics
Petaling Jaya is literally home to some of the largest malls in Malaysia. Every corner will call you to shop, shop, shop! Resist the temptation (or don’t).
Either way, here’s a list of shopping spots to check out (or avoid) in Petaling Jaya:
1. 1 Utama Shopping Centre
Want to get lost in shopping? (And quite literally get lost, because this mall is HUGE.)
This mall has everything you need and everything you don’t even know you need.
Plus, it’s accessible by MRT! Just stop by Bandar Utama MRT and walk straight into the mall from there.

2. Amcorp Mall
The Amcorp Mall is also another PJ gem that you may or may not know about.
Don’t underestimate the way it looks like on the outside (because I did…). The mall is usually not so crowded on the weekdays, but it’s a lot livelier on the weekends thanks to their Weekend Flea Markets!
This is where you can snag vintage items and rare collectibles such as ceramics, figurines, vinyls and more.
My mum, who grew up in PJ introduced me to this mall, and it was such an experience for me to see so many cool items for dirt cheap.
3. Jaya One Shopping Mall
Jaya One is another hidden gem (that’s actually not so hidden).
The Jaya One shopping mall holds events every now and then, and boasts quite a number of eateries suitable for big groups.
Don’t forget to venture outside the mall – there’s some shops outside that you might just love. (For me, it was Stickerrific!)

4. FIFTH
Ah, we’ve arrived in Taman Paramount. The land of Gen Z fashionistas.
FIFTH is a famous thrift store known for its vintage luxury brand finds. This is where the cool kids hang out.
I’ve never stepped in just because I feel intimidated, but at least the outside is nice for taking photos.

5. Kedai.KL
Kedai is one of my favourite places to hang out!
This is the place where you’ll find young ones with local brands and small businesses selling cute trinkets and holding fun activities.
If you’re looking to spend money and #SupportLocal, this is the way to go. (Plus, stop by Pokok.KL for a nice lunch treat.)

And If That’s Not Enough, Spend Your Money On Food, Croissants and Coffee
I’m a (self-proclaimed) cafe connoisseur, and I’m always on the lookout for new cafes to visit on the weekends. They’re popping up like mushrooms, especially in PJ.
These are just some of the thousands of cafes in PJ you should check out:
1. Pizza Mansion
Another #SupportLocal stop. Ditch the traditional pizza parlours and try out Pizza Mansion!
The pizza crust is perfect, with a number of unconventional toppings that will make you salivate.
There’s normally a crowd even on weekday nights, so I suggest booking early if you’re coming in a group.

2. Good Blue Men
As much as I’d like to gatekeep this store, Good Blue Men was recommended to me by a friend and is now the spot I turn to for warm comfort food.
The best part is, their lunch set comes with a main course, a soup or salad and ice cream for dessert (which I absolutely LOVE), all for RM19.90! You don’t normally come across a steal like this in PJ.
It can get packed, but you can book a seat on their Instagram profile.
3. FEEKA Coffee Roasters
Dim lighting, friendly staff and delectable desserts – this is the perfect aesthetic for date nights or lone rangers looking to flee life’s stresses.
I personally turn to FEEKA Coffee Roasters in Happy Mansion to indulge in their strawberry croissant (which I have personally cried over because it was so delicious). And of course, for its warm vibes.

4. Strangers at 47
Another friend’s recommendation that I have thoroughly enjoyed.
The menu item that caught my eye was their savoury crepes. As someone who makes it a life rule to try something different at every cafe I go to, this was a great choice.

5. bröom Artisan Bakery & Kitchen
Two things: pain au chocolat and Asian loaded fries. Thank me later.
The bröom store in Taman Paramount is cozy and hearty, with many other options that’ll make you keep coming for more.

Running Out of Activities? That’s Never A Problem When You Live in PJ
From what I’ve noticed, Petaling Jaya seems to be the first place to have interesting activities. I’m talking roller skating, clay painting, tufting… the list goes on.
You’ll never get bored in PJ, that’s for sure.
Here’s stuff you can do in Petaling Jaya that will definitely make for some memorable moments with friends and family:
1. Tufting, Pottery and Baking @ Good Times DIY
Get your hands dirty and try out pottery!
You’ll either come home with a beautiful keepsake or a lot of laughs – either way, I think that’s a win-win situation.

And if you’re trying to train your baking skills, why not come home with a dessert for your family and friends?

Now this might be a new activity you’ll enjoy. Get rugged and decorate your home with your very own handmade rug!
