1. Confirm voter information 2. Dress appropriately 3. Pay attention to the voting time and leave early 4. Bring your IC and hand over your phone 5. Cast your vote 6. Wait for the ballot results |
1. Confirm voter information
Before voting, don’t forget to check and confirm your voter information on the official website of the Election Commission to ensure that you are at the correct location on the polling day.
2. Dress appropriately
Generally speaking, polling stations will be set up in schools, public halls, gymnasiums and other venues. Voters can vote in plain clothes, but they must avoid wearing hot pants, sleeveless clothes, and clothes with any political party logo or representative color, otherwise they will be banned from entering the polls.
3. Pay attention to the voting time and leave early
In order to give voters enough time to vote, the Election Committee has extended the voting hours, but the polling center will also close early if there are less voters, so it is recommended to start voting early. At the same time, it can also prevent ghost voters from “helping” you to vote, going to the wrong polling station, closed roads, etc., and missing the voting time.
4. Bring your IC and hand over your phone
Before you go to the polling station, remember to bring your IC! Before entering the polling room, the election secretary will check your IC to verify that your identity is the same as the information on the electoral roll.
The Election Commission has announced that voters must hand over their mobile phones to officials for safekeeping before they draw their ballots. Only after voting can they get their mobile phones back and leave the polling center.
After all the information is correct, your finger will be dipped in election ink and considered voted. If your state needs to vote for both Congressional and State seats, you will get two votes, and if your state only votes for Congressional seats, you will get one vote. Remember, when you get your ballot, make sure it has the Election Commission’s stamp on it.
In addition, since this general election encountered the pandemic for the first time, the Ministry of Health also advised voters to protect themselves, and also announced that COVID-19 positive voters can go vote, but must abide by the 4 following rules:
- All voters are encouraged to wear masks. Masks are mandatory for those who are diagnosed.
- Voters who have tested positive are only allowed to drive to the polling center. Taking public transport, including Grab to the polling centre is not allowed.
- All voters are recommended to bring their own sanitizer or use the sanitizer provided at voting centers to sanitize their hands.
- All voters are encouraged to maintain a safe social distance, especially those who have been diagnosed.
5. Cast your vote
After you get the ballot paper with the stamp of the Election Commission, you can go to the screened ballot box and draw an “X” next to the name of your chosen candidate. Note that only ballots marked with an “X” are eligible ballots!
After drawing the ballots, put the ballots into the ballot boxes for the national seat and the state seat respectively. You must vote in the correct ballot box for it to be considered a successful vote.
6. Wait for the ballot results
Congratulations, you have now successfully cast your vote! Now all you need to do is to wait for the results of the vote. You can obtain the results of the general election through the official website of the Election Commission.
The above are 6 simple voting steps and precautions. The next step is to wait for the November 19 polling day to fulfill your civic responsibility and cast your vote!
