Malaysia Public Holiday 2024
January
National: New Year, Thaipusam
State: YDPB Negeri Sembilan’s Birthday
- Start off with a bang! New Year’s on January 1st is a Monday. Take the 2nd off for a smooth 4-day break.
- Thaipusam on January 25? Bag the 26th for another 4-day rest.
- Negeri Sembilan folks, celebrate the YDPB’s birthday on the 14th (a Sunday) and enjoy a day off on the 15th!
February
National: Chinese New Year
State: Federal Territory Day, Israk & Mikraj
- Chinese New Year on the 10th and 11th gifts you a weekend. Snag a leave from the 9th to the 16th and revel in a 10-day holiday!
- Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Labuan, remember the Federal Territory Day on February 1. Make it a 4-day by taking leave on the 2nd.
March
National: Nuzul Quran
State: Installation of Sultan Terengganu, Sultan of Johor’s Birthday, Good Friday
- March has one national holiday for Nuzul Quran on the 28th (Thursday). Include the 29th to enjoy a 4-day weekend.
- For Terengganu, Johor and Kedah and Melaka, enjoy additional holidays in the month of March.
April
National: Hari Raya Aidilfitri
State: Malacca Historic City Day, Sultan of Terengganu’s Birthday
- Hari Raya on the 10th and 11th? Add the 12th (Friday) and it’s a 5-day celebration time!
- Melaka and Terengganu get to enjoy state holidays in this month as well.
May
National: Labour Day, Wesak Day
State: Raja Perlis’ Birthday, Harvest Festival
- Labor Day and Wesak Day both on Wednesdays? Book the adjacent Thursday and Friday for two separate 5-day breaks!
- Plus, for Sabah and Perlis, take leave on the days before your respective holidays to enjoy a sweet long weekend.
June
National: Birthday of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Hari Raya Haji
State: Hari Gawai, Hari Arafah, Sultan of Kedah’s birthday, 2nd day of Raya Haji
- Celebrate the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s birthday on the 3rd, a Monday. That’s a 3-day weekend without lifting a finger!
- For some states, you get to enjoy a 4-day weekend for Hari Raya Haji.
July
National: Awal Muharram
State: Georgetown World Heritage Day, King of Penang’s birthday, Sarawak Day, Sultan of Pahang’s Birthday
- Awal Muharram falls on a Sunday, which means a bonus holiday on Monday!
- Those in Sarawak, Penang and Pahang are in for a treat with additional state holidays.
- Also, Pahangites can enjoy a 4-day weekend if they take leave on the 29th.
August
National: Merdeka Day
State: Melaka Governor’s birthday
- A quiet month but with National Day on a Saturday, pull in a Friday for a long weekend.

National: Malaysia Day, Prophet Muhammad’s birthday
State: Sultan of Kelantan’s birthday (two days)
- For states with a Friday and Saturday weekend, sneak in an extra day off after Merdeka on the 1st to enjoy a 3-day weekend.
- Malaysia Day and Prophet Muhammad’s birthday both on the 16th, a Monday. That’s a 3-day relaxation spree!
- Those in Kelantan can also enjoy two free days of holiday for the Sultan of Kelantan’s birthday!

National: Deepavali
State: YDP Agong of Sabah’s birthday, YDP Agong of Sarawak’s birthday
- Deepavali on the 31st? Add November 1st and dive into a 4-day festivity!
November
State: Sultan of Perak’s birthday
- Remember the tip for Deepavali? For those in Perak, the Sultan’s birthday on the 1st makes it even sweeter!
December
National: Christmas
State: Sultan of Selangor’s birthday
- For those in Selangor, you can choose to take leave on the adjacent Monday and Tuesday or Thursday and Friday for the Sultan of Selangor’s birthday for a sweet weekend holiday treat. If you have lots of remaining leaves, take the whole week off!
- Christmas on a Wednesday! Add the 26th and 27th, and you’re unwrapping a 5-day holiday treat.
