At IQI, we’ve always believed our realtors have a story to tell and an audience willing to listen.
That belief was reinforced during our interview with Minyan Cheng, a fellow Broker and Team Leader at IQI Canada.
We had the opportunity to hear her perspective on being a realtor who focuses on realistic goals to ensure success in their business deals.
1. Could you tell the audience who you are and how your journey with IQI has been so far?
“Before immigrating to Canada, I worked in a law firm, but my journey with IQI has expanded my window of opportunities.
Now, I am a licensed Real Estate Broker serving areas such as Toronto, Mississauga, Oakville, and Burlington, with over 10 years of experience in the real estate industry.
Through my time with IQI, I’ve discovered how we treat each other like family, with mentors to guide us in different areas of real estate.
Here I can grow and reach my dreams way easier with an extraordinarily experienced marketing team to assist with my branding. I just joined IQI on February 1, 2023, and I have already got promoted to Team Leader. See? You can do it too!”
2. What will be your advice for someone wanting to start a real estate career?
“My advice for those who wish to be in real estate? Real estate can offer great earning potential, but having realistic expectations and being prepared to work hard to achieve your goals is essential.
This career requires hard work, dedication, and persistence. You’ll need to be willing to put in the time and effort necessary to succeed. That means professional education and lots of training.
Finding a team to support and shadow you every step of the way is crucial. The strength of you is the Team. Don’t work alone!”

3. Choosing the right brokerage is difficult; what would your advice be for those seeking one? What are your plans for the rest of 2023?
“Again, teamwork, teamwork, teamwork! You need to find a brokerage that can provide a supportive team, resources, and culture for you to succeed.
If you’re looking for a good brokerage, look at the tech and tools they provide – today, technology is an essential part of growing real estate brokerages, so look for online transaction management platforms, lead generation tools, or mobile apps.
While tech may play a big part in choosing, evaluate the training and support. As a realtor, I always look forward to the training and mentorship sessions provided by IQI. Through their support, I’ve better built up my skills and knowledge to ensure I provide only the best to my clients and team.
Lastly, consider the brokerage’s culture, atmosphere, and working environment to make yourself less stressed. Talk to current and former agents to get a sense of the company culture and how it supports its agents. Work hard and enjoy life!
